Many meters feature a pulse output. Each pulse corresponds to a specific volume of gas and can be recorded by a PLC, data logger, or BMS.

Pulse factor

The pulse factor indicates how many cubic meters correspond to each pulse or how many pulses correspond to a cubic meter.

Total consumption

By counting the pulses and applying the correct factor, the total gas volume can be calculated.

Instantaneous flow rate

From the frequency of the pulses, the instantaneous flow rate can also be estimated, provided the resolution is sufficient.

Common error

An incorrect pulse factor in the PLC may result in readings of multiples or submultiples of the actual consumption, even if there is no problem with the meter itself.
