RCBO – What it is and how it differs from a circuit breaker and an RCD

What is an RCBO

The RCBO combines protection against overload, short-circuit, and earth leakage in a single device.

Advantage

If a line has a fault, only that line can be isolated without tripping the RCD of the entire installation.

Where is it used

• On critical lines.
• In commercial spaces.
• In installations where better fault isolation is required.

Important

The RCBO must be selected based on the current, the curve, the type of differential protection, and the characteristics of the line.
