The Emergency Shut-Off Valve (ESD valve) must be able to reliably shut off supply in case of an emergency. Testing involves both mechanical operation and tightness.
Closing command check
It is verified that the valve receives the correct trip signal and moves completely to the closed position.
Position feedback
The end switch or position feedback must correspond to the actual mechanical position.
Internal tightness check
Where required, it is checked that the closed valve does not allow unacceptable leakage to the downstream section.
External tightness
The body, stem, packing, and flanged connections are checked.
Proof test
The test must confirm the entire chain from the ESD trigger to the actual closing of the valve.
