A portable electronic detector is a very useful tool for leak detection, but it requires proper usage and condition checks.
Pre-use check
Confirm that the instrument is suitable for natural gas, has an active calibration, and is functioning properly.
Scanning speed
The detector head should be moved slowly around connections and fittings. Moving it too quickly can result in missing a small leak.
Environmental effects
Strong air currents, ventilation, or other sources of gases can affect the reading.
Result confirmation
Where possible, a suspected point should be confirmed using a second verification method.
Common mistake
The absence of an alarm does not automatically mean that the entire installation is airtight. The measurement refers only to the specific point and the conditions at the time of the check.
