A gas detector can turn on normally without measuring accurately. This is why we distinguish between a bump test and calibration.
What is a bump test
In a bump test, a known gas concentration is applied to confirm that the sensor responds and that the alarms are activated.
What is calibration
Calibration adjusts the instrument's reading to a known reference concentration.
Why are both needed
The bump test checks functionality. Calibration checks and corrects accuracy.
When should they be performed
The frequency is determined by the manufacturer, usage, environmental conditions, and the installation's procedures.
Important
A detector without active and documented maintenance should not be considered reliable just because its display turns on.
