A classic method for measuring flow in industrial networks is to create a controlled pressure drop through a restriction, such as an orifice plate.

Principle of operation

When gas passes through a smaller cross-section, its velocity increases and a pressure difference is created before and after the restriction.

Differential transmitter

The pressure difference is measured and converted into flow through a specific calculation.

What affects accuracy

The geometry of the orifice, gas density, pressure, temperature, and flow profile.

Important

The method requires proper installation and calculation. Measuring the differential pressure alone is not enough.
