A natural gas leak is a serious incident that requires an organized approach. Checking is not based on odor alone, but on safe isolation, appropriate instruments, and documented verification.
Where leaks appear most frequently
Common spots include threaded connections, flanges, valves, regulators, meters, flexible connections, and points where maintenance has previously taken place.
Visual inspection
Check for obvious damage, corrosion, loose connections, mechanical stress, and signs of tampering.
Inspection with an appropriate detector
The use of a certified gas detector allows for the identification of small leaks that are otherwise difficult to detect.
Inspection with foaming liquid
An approved foaming solution can be used at appropriate points. The formation of bubbles indicates a leak. Never use a flame for inspection.
After identification
The section is isolated, repaired, and re-tested before being put back into operation.
