Buffer tank and DHW priority: how they work together

In systems where the heat pump also produces DHW, the buffer tank operation must be coordinated with the priority of the domestic hot water tank.

DHW priority

When there is a DHW demand, the three-way valve can divert the flow from the buffer to the DHW tank.

After charging

The system returns to heating or cooling mode and restores the buffer to the normal setpoint.

Potential issue

Incorrect priority logic can leave the space heating circuit without sufficient temperature for an extended period.
