The refrigerant circuit is the heart of the heat pump. It transfers heat from a lower temperature area to a higher temperature area.
1. Compression
The compressor increases the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant vapor.
2. Condensation
In the condenser, the refrigerant releases heat and turns into a liquid.
3. Expansion
The expansion valve reduces the pressure of the refrigerant and prepares it for entry into the evaporator.
4. Evaporation
In the evaporator, the refrigerant absorbs heat and turns back into vapor.
Continuous cycle
The process repeats as long as there is a demand for heating or cooling.
