When the secondary circuit demands a higher flow rate than the heat pump provides, part of the water is recirculated through the hydraulic separator.

Mixing

Return water is mixed with the supply to the terminals.

Result

The temperature to the secondary circuit may become lower than the heat pump's outlet temperature.

Practical significance

If the difference is large, an inability to cover the thermal load may occur.
