The four-way valve is a key component in reversible heat pumps. It allows the direction of the refrigerant cycle to be changed.

In heating mode

The internal exchanger releases heat to the water or air, while the external one absorbs heat from the environment.

During defrost

The valve temporarily changes position and sends hot refrigerant to the external exchanger.

Symptoms of a problem

Incomplete position change can cause low efficiency, unusual pressures, or failed defrost.

Diagnosis

Assessment is carried out by a qualified technician by checking temperatures, pressures, and the electrical command of the valve.
