Ice does not only form on the heat exchanger. Under adverse conditions, it can also accumulate around the fan blade or the fan housing.
Possible causes
Refreezing defrost water, inadequate drainage, or snow entering the unit.
Symptoms
Noise, vibrations, reduced airflow, or difficulty starting the fan.
Risks
The fan blade may strike the ice, causing mechanical damage.
Troubleshooting
First, check the drainage, the base pan heater, and correct installation position. Do not attempt to mechanically break the ice on the blades.
