What a contactor does

The contactor allows a small control circuit to activate a larger load, such as a motor or a heater.

Frequent faults

  • Burnt coil.
  • Burnt main contacts.
  • Hum or unstable operation.
  • Mechanical jamming.

Testing

We check the voltage at the coil and the condition of the contacts. If the coil is receiving the correct voltage but the contactor does not engage, a probable cause is an internal fault.
